The Village.
Our village offers a wide range of amenities right on the doorstep. At Number 4 coffee shop you can relax and have brunch whilst enjoying the morning papers. Sweet cinnamon sally offers locally made sweet treats and fresh baked goods and you can enjoy an ice cream and a cuppa.
The village has a butcher for your BBQ and convenience stores as well as a pizza shop, Chinese take away, fish and chip shop, Indian take away and restaurant where you can take your own alcohol and a short walk up the hill is the New Board Inn pub which serves traditional pub grub and has fantastic views of the valley.
Cyclist / Rambler and Walkers
The property is situated a 2 minute walk from the Derwent Valley cycle path which is very popular with cyclist and walkers for its beautiful countryside views.
Places near by to visit
The historic City of Durham lies 4 miles to the east which is a great day out. The Cathedral which has just been crowned the BBC country file magazine heritage site of the year and castle are well worth a visit. You can take a relaxing stroll around the river before enjoying one of the many coffee shops and bistros the city has to offer. Also in the market place which is the focal point of the city there is always something going on from brass festivals, farmers markets, street art etc
Other attractions close by are Beamish Open Air Museum, the Baltic Art Gallery, The Centre for Life Museum (which is one of the newest family attractions in Newcastle), The Millennium Bridge, The Angel of the North, Bede's World, Hadrians Wall, Durham County Cricket Club or you could venture farther afield to Holy Island, Kielder Reservoir, Bowes Museum, Raby Castle, Killhope Wheel, Kynren Show - epic tale of England and a range of national trust properties and grounds to explore - cragside, gibside and wallington hall which are all a great day out for the whole family. Diggerland is only a 2 minute walk away - providing fun for all age groups.
We are surrounded by famous archaeological digs such as Binchester Fort, and a newer Fort, Longovicium, yet to be excavated has been discovered in Lanchester itself. We are only about 30 minutes drive from the Northumbrian Coast with its miles of glorious beaches.
