Albion Cottage has been in our family since 1908. Our grandmother was later born in the house where her 6 siblings also resided.
For many years our guests tell us how they are transported to a carefree and unplugged time while at Albion Cottage. Enjoy the serenity of the magical north coast of California, too.

The space
Historic Albion Cottage is located in the tiny north coast village of Albion, CA (8 miles south of Mendocino proper); a perfect romantic getaway (or writer's retreat) awaits you in the most beautiful and gorgeous part of this serene and rugged part of the world. As we are avid hikers, when you book the cottage, we'll provide you with great local hiking trail information!
This very special beloved family property is 3 minutes from the Pacific Ocean, 30 minutes from Booneville and the many wineries of the cutting-edge Anderson Valley, and 10 minutes from the famed village of Mendocino (trivia: the exterior shots for the TV series "Murder she Wrote" were filmed here). Although only 2.5 hours from SF, the cottage offers a soothing respite amid the vastness of nature. It's so wonderful to have guests experience and appreciate our treasured 110-year-old family home for what it is -- an unpolished jewel.
What we provide: Clean sheets, bath towels, paper goods, a Melita coffee maker with enough local organic coffee to last your visit, a lighter stick for the stove, a myriad of antique dishes & silverware, an antique 1920 Wedgewood stove (there's no pilot light, please be familiar on how to use gas from the past: see the home manual for more details).
In the petite kitchen, you'll find Grandma's 1940's original fridge, a microwave, antique dishware, cutlery, and other kitchen utensils/cookware/cutting board, etc. The area is small, but we are both gourmet cooks and have cooked everything from Thanksgiving meals to home-baked bread and scones in our grandma's kitchen over the decades.
There's also a Bose SoundLink Revolve Portable Bluetooth 360 Speaker for all of your music-listening pleasures.
Further, there's super-fast Comcast-enabled WI-FI and Apple TV/Netflix-enabled 4K HDR TV screen with hundreds of films and shows from our personal library for you and your family to enjoy.

"Just as charming as the other reviews say! If you're looking for a blank-slate Airbnb with bare walls and fake plants, keep looking. If you want a slice of history and home, with all of its comforts and character along with some quirks and wear that come with age, this is your spot. It's close to a well-stocked grocery store with long hours, and there are unbeatable views at the nearby Ledford House restaurant. The dog loved relaxing on the back porch. We enjoyed playing cards while listening to music over the Bluetooth speaker. Lovely place to spend a few nights. We hope to be back soon!"

"Kevin’s place is so unique-antiques, with plants, an incredible tub, and a sweet back deck, and the front bed was a delight to sleep in. We appreciated the history and family lineage embedded in the house. As others have mentioned, if you are looking for a spacious kitchen and modern appliances or are not comfortable with aging furniture, this home away from home may not be for you. But for those who want to experience the beauty of another time, this is the place."

"Great stay - perfect for 2 or 3 people. We took our pup along and had a wonderful historic experience. I was amazed looking at the historic stove, oven and fridge in the kitchen. Definitely not for those who don’t enjoy rusty and antique furniture. Host is extremely responsive with any questions, and a great grocery store is just a minute away if you walk."

"The cottage is neither too precious nor too unfinished. It is altogether very much part of the rambling beauty of Albion. Yes, it’s thoughtfully appointed, but it also has the feeling of those who’ve lived there before (and before). You feel its bones as you wrap yourself in blankets on the velvet sofa. A place where you can do nothing or anything. Turn off social media. Listen for the geese overhead. Watch the fog over the Albion river. Marvel at all the details in the home: photos, paintings, old oil lamps, Buddhas (Yoda is there too). Get to know the stove and you can even cook the perfect steak. The place is profoundly personal and will welcome you too."
