Idyllic rural thatched cottage with a host of facilities including indoor pool | Cottage in Chillington
3 Bedroom Cottage in Chillington
The Applestore is a charming three bedroom thatched cottage situated on the Doomesday listed Stancombe Manor estate, in the heart of the beautiful South Hams countryside. Less than ten minutes drive from the traditional market town of Kingsbridge, Stancombe is nestled in a picturesque and tranquil valley where at night you will hear nothing but owls and other birds of prey and perhaps the occasional fox! There is little light pollution so it is the perfect place to watch the stars. There are acres of gardens with a host of shared facilities including an indoor swimming pool and sauna (open all year round); indoor and outdoor play areas; pitch and putt, snooker room and tennis court.
The Applestore dates back a few hundred years but has been renovated and restored to provide cosy, comfortable living. The accommodation comprises of a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area on the ground floor with three bedrooms downstairs - one twin, one double with en suite and a third bedroom which can be made up either as a single or a double. There is a second bathroom with shower, wc and basin. The kitchen has a dishwasher, oven and hob, washing machine and there is a TV, DVD in the sitting area. The cottage has it's own private Wifi. There is a private fully enclosed terrace (safe for dogs and children) with seating and barbecue. There is parking for two cars on site with additional parking on request. The cottage has it's own private entrance and full access to all the facilities on the site. We are happy to accept pets and there is a lovely, safe footpath walk that runs through the land of Stancombe Manor down to the village of Sherford.
The surrounding coast and countryside offer many different beaches - long sandy stretches, small coves, beautiful walks and many outdoor activities including kayaking, paddle boarding, walking, riding, sailing, fishing, etc.
The cottage is located within the heart of unspoilt Devon countryside, in an area of outstanding natural beauty and protected coastline including the South West Coastal Path. There are many wonderful walks to suit all abilities and ages. The famous Slapton Sands, where the D-Day Landings were practised is only ten minutes drive from the cottage and the coastal drive to Dartmouth is stunning (25 minutes). Dartmouth is a charming, historical town with much to see and do including the castle and car ferry to Kingswear. The coastal town of Salcombe is also only 20 minutes away, famed for its golden sandy beaches, restaurants and now the renowned Salcombe Gin and Salcombe Brewery. The ancient traditional market town of Totnes (25 minutes by car) is where you will find the nearest train station; the town itself is quirky and fun, well worth a visit with many fabulous and unique shops and eateries and a weekly market selling everything from vegetables to antique furniture and everything in-between! In December there are night Christmas markets with the main street closed and a a lantern procession, street food and entertainment. The town is also famed for it's high percentage of locally farmed and grown produce (much of which is organic) that is sold locally and used by many restaurants in the area.
Our nearest town, Kingsbridge, is less than ten minutes drive. There are two supermarkets, Morrison's and Tesco and a host of individual food shops - delis, butchers, artisan baker's, wine shop and green grocer. There are also interesting shops, galleries and regular collertor/flea markets, a cinema and an array of coffee shops, restaurants and pubs including the quayside Crabshell - a favourite of ours . A farmers marker takes place on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. From May to October there is a ferry running between Kingsbridge and Salcombe. We are also very fortunate to have a number of very good farm shops in the area, many with their own butchers and cafes; our two favourites are Stokeley Farm Shop and Cafe (also has small brewery and bar) between Stokenham and Torcross and Aune Valley between Kingsbridge and Loddiswell.
Further afield there is Exeter (our nearest airport) and Plymouth both with interesting historical sites, museums and shopping centres. Dartmoor is a 30-40 drive and worthy of a visit for the stunning scenery and the famous Dartmoor ponies. There are some great walking routes and traditional pubs for resting and refreshments!
There are too many places of interest to list but we are always happy to help with recommendations and advice.
We are also able to provide catering if required by prior arrangement.
