There are two kinds of paradises in this world and this property fits perfectly into the wilderness paradise category. Extremely private rustic mountain getaway tucked deep into the Trinity Alps directly on the Mad River. While deep in the northern California woods, it's less than 5 hours from the Bay Area, 4 hours from Sacramento and 2 hours from Eureka!
This hidden gem has all the modern amenities with two woods stoves, and rare ownership of 400 ft. on both sides of a breathtaking stretch of the Mad River for cooling off during those hot summer days! 2 swimming holes, a diving rock, fishing and more. Fantastic fire pit in front of a massive wrap around deck featuring a private jacuzzi over looking the river. Also there is an outside shower and an out door kitchen with a stove and microwave.
Katherine's Paradise has three large livings area . 2 beds downstairs, 2 baths on the main level and on the second level there is a large room that could be considered another living area and a bedroom and a small separate bed room with a half bath connected to both rooms.. This is a very rare find in this incredible stretch of country . An incredible vacation home . It is suitable for all seasons.

Summary: A beautiful old family home full of happy memories was the first thing that came to me when I walked into Kathryn's Paradise. If you get a chance to talk to her I highly recommend it. She reminds me of the spry country grandma I never had. If asked she will tell you the stories that go along with all the family photos and art works on her walls. It is a couple minutes of Mad River Town. "Don't blink or you will miss it!" is their motto and its true. There is a great hamburger stand, mini market, bar and post office there. If you like meat I recommend the butcher counter in the market. Kathryn's cabin is huge! There are seperate sitting rooms and outdoor spaces for anyone who needs a little space from the rest of the gang. The 3 bathrooms was also super convenient. The kitchen is nice and big, stocked with 3 generations of tools and gadgetry. There are dvds and cds and two television with cable tv if you still want to stay 'plugged in'. The river is just out the back door passed the jacuzzi. There were floaties galore. There is also a great outdoor fire ring for evening fun and a couple of bbqs. My older kids appreciated the washer and dryer so they could do all their laundry before we went out separate ways. At night we could see the Milky Way!!!!! Being from the city that was a big deal. There is no cell connection here (blessing in disguise) but she does have wifi and its quite good. Reaches all the way to the other side of this elongated cabin! (i tried to stay unplugged i really did lol) My only concern is if you have toddler aged kids. Its not little kid proof. They could tumble off the deck or down the stairs, slip into the jacuzzi kinda accidents. So watch your little kids or go someplace else set up for the wee ones. I would love to come back again and stay at her place. I like the Mad River vibe. It feels a bit more untamed than the Trinity River. Maybe its the name but I loved it. Thank you Kathryn for the great stay.
