This 900 sq. ft. cabin is located just over a mile from the historic town of Julian on a half acre of land surrounded by mature oak trees. Fully remodeled in 2017, this home is thoughtfully designed for the experienced traveler. The open concept design makes the cabin feel much larger than it is. Modern finishes nicely compliment the rustic and vintage décor.
The perfect place to escape to for a romantic weekend getaway, family vacation, or solo retreat. Immerse yourself in nature. Have dinner under the stars. Rest, recharge, and refresh your spirit.
Heating and Air. The home uses a Nest thermostat for both cooling and heating. We also have a wood-burning stove in the living room and heated bathroom floors to keep you extra cozy during those cold winter nights ❄️ ⛄️
Technology. We have the best WiFi available for our area along with Dish Network TV and Alexa / Sonos speaker system. Alexa can play your favorite music or change the channel on the TV all with a simple command.
Kitchen. The kitchen is well-equipped with all new new cookware, crockpot, rice cooker, keurig coffee maker, and a variety of spices. We even have a picnic basket that you can take with you on your hike nearby or visit to Lake Cuyamaca.
Sleeping Arrangements. Both bedrooms contain a queen size bed with a comfy mattress and quality linens and pillows. The sofa bed provides a third sleeping arrangement if needed.
Yard and Deck. There are two outdoor decks, each with a unique view. The front deck is perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee and bird watching (with the occasional visit from our deer and turkey friends) while the rear deck provides an excellent view of the night sky. The side yard also has a grassy area, outdoor picnic table, and outdoor string lights.
Enjoy dinner under the oak trees illuminated by soft lighting or fire up the grill and turn on the fire table as you gaze up at the stars. Julian is an official dark-sky community, meaning the moon & stars shine bright 🌙 ✨
This is truly a special place. Previously listed as "Deerwalk Retreat", this property has hosted over 150 guests with five star reviews. No wonder we have repeat visitors several times per year!
If needed, there is a detached laundry room with a large-capacity washer and dryer for use during long-term stays. The grounds are maintained monthly.
Other things to note
The cabin is meant for 2-4 guests. We recommend two adult couples or a family of four.
Weather - We do not reimburse for weather-related issues that are out of our control. This includes SDG&E forced power shutoffs and extreme weather such as high winds, snow, or ice. In such cases, the living room wood stove acts as a great heat source and warms up the cabin extremely well. We also have battery operated flashlights and candles available.
Backcountry Critters- The cabin is located in the backcountry which means lots of critters and bugs. The house is professionally cleaned and sanitized after each guest, however, we simply can't avoid the occasional break in from an unwanted visitor. That being said, please be mindful of open windows and doors. Lizards are known to sneak in when you're not looking!
Septic System - We are on a fragile septic system in the mountains. Please DO NOT FLUSH ANYTHING OTHER THAN TOILET PAPER down the toilet. Anything other than toilet paper will damage the pump and could lead to expensive repairs (minimum repair charge $350)
Release of Liability - By confirming your reservation, you and other members from your party ("the Guest") agree to release the Hosts from all liability, including financial responsibility, relating to any injury or personal property damage that may occur during your stay. You understand that the use of the property is at your own risk.
