Positive: Beautiful gardens, rooms and outdoor baths

Negative: Lack of care for the small but important details. Stressful buffet dinner and breakfast experience taking away from the ideal stress-free onsen experience. We’ve been to plenty of onsen and ryokan, and this was the most stressful dinner and breakfast arrangement, with too many people arriving at the same time, creating huge queues to get your food or even to look at what was available. This was off-season and nowhere at full capacity; I can’t imagine how this would be at its peak. I would recommend the management team create more slots for arriving at dinner and breakfast to avoid so many people joining at the same time and to recommend better times.
